it is a sad, inescapable fact that hyunie, his precious hyunie, prefers the way jon makes faces at him.

he understands. really. he has seen the way jon will give up his naturally handsome features to morph into cross eyed, fish lipped monsters, or attempt to touch his nose with the tip of his tongue, making noises all the way. it's all adorable, silly, and heart warming in a way dae loves, and hyunie loves too as apparent by the face crumpling smiles he beams out at his father.

dae just wishes he would receive a less lukewarm response when he gathers hyunie up into his lap and looms over him, scrunching up his features, pulling out his ears, and on occasion trying to wiggle his nose like a witchy housewife. hyunie is polite about it. he watches intently, giving dae his full attention. he just doesn't do anything else.

once he flung his arms to the side and dae thought, "this is it, this is him wanting to congratulate me on a job well done," but, alas, the smell that followed could only have him reach a conclusion of hyunie having other pressing matters for dae to attend to.

he prevails. he practices in the mirror -- and, yes, jon has caught him several times, each with varying degrees of embarrassment depending on the severity of dae's facial gymnastics. one day he will see the glory of hyunie's breadrolled arms waving frantically in delight. he'll enjoy the excited kick of tiny strawberry sock covered feet.

and for now he is grateful with what he has already: a front row seat to jon's magic show and, when his turn arrives, his son's undivided attention.
